Motorists on the M5 travelling through the Burnham-On-Sea area faced lengthy delays on Thursday afternoon (November 12th) after a man fell to his death from a footbridge.
Police closed the southbound carriageway of the M5 near Bridgwater’s junction 23 after the fatal incident at 4pm.
Shortly before 5.10pm, lanes two and three of the southbound carriageway were re-opened, but traffic had already tailed back as far as junction 22 at Burnham.
The A38 through Highbridge was busy as motorists sought alternatives routes around the queues.
The man plunged from the footbridge near Bridgwater. Police have begun an investigation into the circumstances.
