This is the scene on the M5 motorway this evening (Friday, November 4th) following a major accident which has shut the motorway in both directions.
Police say 26 vehicles – 20 light vehicles and six articulated lorries – were involved in the collision, which has closed it in both directions between junctions 23 to 26.
The image shows what witnesses called a “horrendous” scene with mutiple vehicle on fire.
Police say over 25 people have been injured and there are also fatalities. The accident occurred at 8.25pm and numerous emergency crews are in attendance.
A police spokesman said the motorway is likely to remain closed for 24 hours while emergency services are at the scene and to allow time for repairs. More here
