Motorist airlifted to hospital after crash on M5 near Burnham-On-Sea

This was the scene on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea on Monday afternoon (February 12th) after a serious accident involving four vehicles temporarily closed it.

One woman was airlifted to hospital following the multiple crash at 1.45pm on the southbound carriageway between junctions 22 at Burnham and 23 at Pawlett.

Police and fire crews from Bridgwater, Burnham and Taunton rushed to the scene and Somerset’s air ambulance was used to fly one female motorist to hospital.

A fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Two fire engines, one for crew safety, and a rescue tender were mobilised to this incident.”

“On arrival, the crews confirmed that this was a four vehicle collision with one person trapped in a car. Crews using cutting gear removed the casualty.”

Two people with minor injuries were also taken to hospital. The motorway was re-opened at around 4pm.
