A Burnham-On-Sea runner has been selected to run for Great Britain at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
Luke Prior from Berrow, who is a former pupil of King Alfred School in Highbridge, has been selected to run in the event in Kampala, Uganda on March 26th.
This comes of the back of him coming third at the UK County Cross Country Championships Under-20 men’s race on 11th March in Loughborough.
The event also incorporated the World Cross Country trials and Luke’s third place means he has automatic qualification with three others to be selected for a team of six.
Conditions are likely to be hot and not what he’s used to, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees with 80% humidity.
Luke told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Only a few months ago I made my international debut in Spain with England, and I went into the Inter-Countys thinking of having an outside chance of selection.”
“I would never of thought I would come third and get automatic selection to represent GB in Kampala, Uganda at the World Cross Country Championships!”
“I just want to thank all for the support I have received from my family and friends, both at university and home.”
“Also I want to thank my Dad, Simon, for always being there and cheering me on.”
The race is scheduled to be shown live on BBC1 on the red button from 12pm on 26th March.
