Berrow runner gets England call-up to compete in 10km road race

-

A young Berrow runner has been selected to run for England over 10k on the road.

Luke Prior, a former pupil of King Alfred School in Highbridge, will compete in a race in Rennes, France on Sunday 14th October.

This selection has come on the back of personal best times for Luke at 10km at 30.37 and 5km at 14.42.

Luke also finished sixth year at the English 5000m championships in his first year as a U23.

Luke told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This has come as a bit of a shock as I am a first year U23 with two years left in this age group.”

“I have represented my country at cross country before but not road so this will be something new and a step to my goal which is to run at the highest level possible over the marathon.”

“As always this wouldn’t be possible with out the backing of my family and friends, plus two great coaches in my dad Simon Prior and Mick Woods who oversees my training at St Mary’s University.”

“Without these two working together I would definitely not be where I am now – they are two of the best coaches in the country. I would urge anyone who has a dream to go and chase it.”

Luke is part of a 16 person strong team from u20s to seniors. When Luke comes back he will continue to prepare for European XC trials to be held at Liverpool.
