Four runners from the Burnham-On-Sea area will be among the thousands of people pounding the streets of London during the city’s annual marathon this Sunday (April 17th).
Jason Vickers, who works at Burnham’s Tesco supermarket, will be running Sunday’s 26 mile route for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The plucky runner, who has suffered from Crohn’s Disease for the past 17 years, will be trying to beat his 2010 time of five hours and 36 minutes.
Jason told Burnham-On-Sea.com he has been in training for months, adding: “I’m really looking forward to Sunday – I love taking part.”
Burnham-On-Sea Harriers member Sue Nicholls, right, will be running the London Marathon in memory of her late husband.
Sue will be taking part to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
“I am taking part in memory of my late husband, Cliff, and all the other people who have been affected by this illness,” said Sue, whose fundraising web page is here.
And Sam Stockham, a teaching assistant at St Joseph’s School and Brent Knoll School, pictured below, has secured a place in the race on behalf of the charity Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre.
She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I have been in training since last October and have been running approximately 24 miles each week.”
“I have had to pledge to raise funds of at least £1,500 and have so far raised nearly £2,200. I would not have been able to manage it, but for the help of my mum Gina Williams, work colleagues and the locals from the Puriton Inn and Bridgwater and Albion Rugby club.” You can support her here.
Lympsham runner Gary Bowden will also be running the marathon on Sunday. “I’m running to raise funds towards CLIC Sargent’s ‘Especially For You Fund’, which has been set up for Ellen Frost, a family friend’s daughter,” Gary told Burnham-On-Sea.com. To support and sponsor Gary, see his webpage here.
