A group of local students have raised £500 for charity by holding a fundraising family fun day and charity football match in Burnham-On-Sea as part of a government-backed community programme.
The youngsters, from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge, are taking part in the National Citizen Service initiative and held a ‘Children’s Summer Bash’ at the Bay Centre in Cassis Close on Friday and football match.
One of the team, Ruby Jade Barton, said: “What an amazing day – we had a fabulous turnout and with the fete and football match, today we managed to raise £500 in aid of The Children’s Society!”
“We would just like to thank everyone who came down to support us, from our group, our team leaders, our fantastic football players, the Lisa Jane School of Dance, our referee, our stallholders, those who donated, family, friends and the public.”
NCS (National Citizen Service) is a government-backed programme which brings young people aged 15 – 17 from different backgrounds together for a common purpose.
Social mixing is at the heart of NCS. By making the programme accessible for everyone and by setting team goals and challenges, we inspire new friendships across differences.
The Challenge is now a leading provider of NCS, working with our partners and seasonal staff to deliver the programme to tens of thousands of young people every year.
