A wooden carving of a lion, which was stolen from a pub near Highbridge last month, has been returned in the post.
The owners of the Watchfield Inn issued an appeal last month after the ornate seven inch wide carving was removed from an old fireplace in the bar.
Licensee Jane Berryman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The lion has been anonymously returned to us in the post in red Christmas paper and bubble wrap.”
“We’re over the moon that it’s back, but there was no indication who took it or why. The only information we have is the Devon postmark on the outside of the packaging.”
“It still puzzles us why someone would want to remove an item like this. It has been there for many years and had left a big gap in a beautiful old fireplace.”
