Burnham-On-Sea cyclist completes Land’s End to John O’Groats ride

-

A Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser has battled her way through heavy rain and wind during a charity cycle ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Linda Macbeth took part in the Deloittes ride across Britain to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com afterwards, she said: “This is is a challenge I have wanted to do for a few years now — the challenge took nine days, travelling over 100 miles per day, 969 miles in total.”

“It was organised by Deloittes and Threshold Sports. The organisation and management of this event was excellent with a professional crew, consisting of safety, medical, mechanical, physio, catering, and cycling chaperone professionals, all ready to support over 800 riders.”

She added: “Having sadly lost a good friend and knowing others who are suffering with cancer I rode this in support of Cancer Research UK.”

“Whilst this was the most fantastic way to see the uk, the weather and conditions were against us. The majority of the days were spent in strong head winds and rain.”

“This also made base camp conditions very tough. This event is certainly not for the faint-hearted.”

“Despite many occasions I wanted to give up for various reasons, now I have completed the trip I feel a real sense of achievement. I’m so proud and feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to have cycled with such amazing people.”

“Everyone really looked after each other all the way. I am also very greatful for all the support from friends with transportation, training, and preparation for the event.”

“However, like so many other riders who took part in this event the the real motivation was to raise as much money as possible for charity.”
