Latest addition to Burnham-On-Sea’s mini lighthouse trail is unveiled

-

Youngsters at Burnham-On-Sea’s Dreamscheme have been putting the finishing touches to their entry for the town’s mini lighthouse trail this week.

As first reported here, HABA (Highbridge and Burnham Artists) is overseeing the display of more than thirty 6ft-tall replicas of Burnham’s iconic beach lighthouse across the town from May.

A group of youngsters at Burnham Dreamscheme has been painting the latest lighthouse, pictured here.

“It’s been a lot of fun to paint the lighthouse in bright colours with our kite logo,” leader John Alexander told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Ten of the colourful lighthouses have now been completed with work underway on the others by local artists and community groups.

The Lighthouse Trail will raise funds for charity and it is hoped they’ll also attract visitors into the town. The decorated lighthouses will be located at prominent sites in Burnham, Brean, Lympsham, Watchfield and Highbridge.

They are being built at Woodberry Brothers and Haines in Highbridge, led by Paul Plume, which is providing the materials and workshop space for free.

HABA’s Sarah Berryman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We saw the success of the Gromit trail in Bristol and thought it would be great to have a trail here in Burnham. Our lighthouse is unique to Burnham and perfect for this project.”

The lighthouses will be installed in supermarkets, shops, tourist destinations, holiday camps and one will be at Burnham’s Marine Cove.
