Lifeguards and beach wardens were kept busy on the first official day of the summer season in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (July 5th).
A young boy received treatment for a knee injury from the RNLI lifeguards after falling on the sea wall steps.
And the team, working alongside Sedgemoor District Council’s beach wardens, also issued safety advice to several groups of people walking through the mud to reach the sea.
The summer beach patrols are now running daily between 10am and 6pm until Sunday 7th September.
The RNLI team has been busy preparing for their return by taking part in an induction programme, refreshing their skills, and they have also given safety talks to groups of children.
“The team has been talking to the youngsters about the different flags in use, lifeguard equipment, possible hazards on the beach and how to stay safe if they get into trouble,” said a spokesman.
The lifeguards have also worked with their colleagues at Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station, BARB Search & Rescue and Burnham Coastguards to teach beach and sea safety.
The RNLI lifeguards are positioned in temporary stations on Burnham-On-Sea seafront at the top of the jetty and on Berrow beach.
