Burnham-On-Sea lifeguard saves 10 year-old girl from sea
Quick-thinking lifeguard Ed Mander saved a 10-year old girl who was being swept out to sea in Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday afternoon (April 21st).
Ed, pictured, warned two girls playing on the town’s jetty about the risk of being swept away when the tide is falling.
But the pair did not take his advice and one girl got into difficulties when she fell into the water shortly afterwards.
Ed, 23, jumped into the water and used his buoyancy aid to help bring the girl back to safety, avoiding a possible tragedy.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Luckily, I was just a few yards away when she fell into the water and was able to swim out to reach her quite quickly.”
“The tide was going out fast and she was starting to get pulled away from the jetty by the force of the water.”
“If I’d taken a few moments later to reach her, it could have been a lot more serious. She was quite panicky and relieved when I got her back to the jetty.”
It’s Ed’s second season as a lifeguard and he says this week’s warm Spring weather has meant it has been an incredibly busy time.
