Student takes to the water with RNLI for Duke of Edinburgh award

-

Burnham Sea Cadet and King Alfred School student Timon Massarella has been taking part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and spending his voluntary service time at Burnham lifeboat station.

During his time at the station he has learned about navigation, boat handling, shore team support, and experienced some acquaintance trips aboard both Burnham-On-Sea’s lifeboats during training sessions.

His RNLI training has recently come to an end, but he continues with the DofE award scheme in liaison with Burnham’s sea cadets unit.

Deputy Launch Authority Lyndon Baker said: “It’s been great to see Timon develop in confidence throughout his time at the station, as his knowledge and experience has grown. He was a proven useful addition to the team and we hope he can continue to build on the skills he’s gained during his time here.”

Burnham Lifeboat Station participates in the DofE scheme and those interested in getting involved should get in contact via their school’s DofE coordinator, although there are limited places.
