Two people were rescued from rocks at Brean Down on Saturday (May 5th) after becoming stranded by the incoming tide.
Coastguards and lifeboats from Burnham-On-Sea were called to Brean Down at 5.18pm after the two walkers were spotted cut-off by the sea water.
“The casualties were 500 metres from the shore and would have put themselves in more danger if they had tried to walk back,” Burnham Coastguard officer Ian Jefferies told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Two members of the Coastguard’s water rescue team made their way out as far as safely possible to tell the casualties to stay where they were while the lifeboat recovered them and took them ashore.”
Paramedics checked over the man and woman, both in their 20s, who were cold but otherwise unharmed.
“This incident serves as a reminder about the importance of checking tide times. Within half an hour of us leaving the scene the area where the casualties were standing would have been under deep water.”
