New temporary lifeboat arrives in Burnham-On-Sea during re-fit

-

Eagle-eyed observers will notice a change of name on Burnham-On-Sea’s Atlantic 75 lifeboat this week.

Burnham’s lifeboat ‘The Staines Whitfield’ has been taken off service for a five yearly re-fit, and has been temporarily replaced by a substitute lifeboat called Jack and Joyce Burcombe, which has arrived from the RNLI’s relief fleet.

“Both boats were launched this week and, after a short trip around the bay, the Staines Whitfield was recovered on a towing trailer for transit to the lifeboat repair facility at Cowes on the Isle of Wight,” said a spokesman.

The lifeboat Jack and Joyce Burcombe served from 2004 to 2007 at Sunderland RNLI station and was later placed in the RNLI relief fleet. Since then it has seen service at several locations, including Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station in East Sussex.
