Sighting of suspected distress flare sparks lifeboats launch

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s lifeboats were launched to investigate the sighting of a possible distress flare in the Bristol Channel on Wednesday evening (October 20th).

Coastguards spotted a red flare in the night sky towards Watchet at 7.45pm, prompting the launch of lifeboats from Burnham.

“Coastguards from Minehead and Watchet were also involved in the thorough sea search, but nothing was found. Police believe the incident was probably caused by a firework from an unofficial display near Dunster,” a Burnham Coastguard spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
