Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat helps grounded yacht in River Brue

-

A Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat was called to help a grounded yacht in the River Brue on Sunday morning (August 29th).

A 21ft yacht sailing into the river was spotted having difficulty maneuvering in the force four north easterly winds and had grounded itself on the lee shore of the river.

One of Burnham’s two lifeboats, the Staines Whitfield, was being recovered by its crew nearby following a training session, so diverted to help the vessel.

The crew speedily helped the stricken yacht and towed it from the muddy river to the safety of the Sailing Club’s mooring pontoons.

Burnham RNLI Operations Manager Ricky Holmes told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It should be noted that because of the dropping tide, had the yacht not been assisted at that time, there was a strong chance that it could have stayed aground until September 6th at the earliest.”
