Size of new Lidl sign is ‘inappropriate’ says Town Council
Town councillors have called on the District Council to investigate whether Burnham’s new Lidl supermarket should be asked to reduce the size of its huge sign in Oxford Street.
The sign, pictured here, towers above the entrance to the store and is as tall as some houses in the area.
Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, the town’s mayor, Lousie Parkin, said: “Both Neville Jones and I have raised concerns at Sedgemoor District Council over the sign.”
“We both feel – and so does the rest of the town council – that it is inappropriate in a residential area.”
She added that several other issues at the controversial store are also being investigated.
Louise said: “They were not supposed to open until all building work was done – such as the crossing, which is still not fully operational, and the wall at the side.”
“There are also a few other matters which were part of their conditions which have been ignored.”
The comments come just weeks after residents next to the store slammed the supermarket’s owners for building an 8ft fence around the perimeter of the site, blocking several of their garages and garden gates.
