County councillor ‘worried’ over funding threat to Burnham’s library

-

A Burnham-On-Sea County Councillor has this week raised concerns that cuts in library funding across Somerset could hit the town’s library.

Speaking to Burham-On-Sea.com, County Councillor Mike Facey said he would fight any attempt to cut any services at Burnham’s Princess Street library, pictured right.

He said: “It’s definite that there will be £440,000 less in the overall budget for library funding across Somerset this year.”

County Councillor Mike FaceyMr Facey added: “There’s been much discussion in County Hall in recent weeks about which libraries are likely to see the cuts.”

“Burnham has not been mentioned specifically, but I’m concerned about how the county council will make the savings. Could it be redundancies, fewer books, or even a reduction in IT services?”

“As Burnham’s library is in my ward, I’m concerned that we could see a reduced quality of service here in the months to come.”

“I would definitely fight against any reduction here in the town.”
