Election latest: Lib Dems’s Paddy Ashdown visits Burnham-On-Sea

-

Paddy Ashdown, the former leader of the Liberal Democrats, visited Burnham-On-Sea on Monday morning (April 19th) after Vince Cable, the deputy leader of the party, had to postpone his visit due to continuing air travel problems caused by last week’s volanic eruption.

Lord Ashdown attended a business meeting at the Oaktree Arena on Monday morning to give his support to Tessa Munt, the Lib Dems’ parliamentary candidate, after Mr Cable postponed his visit until May.

Tessa Munt told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a shame that Vince was unable to visit us here in Burnham due to the continuing travel problems, but it was wonderful to have Lord Ashdown instead. He answered many questions from the audience.”

Meanwhile, MP David Heathcoat-Amory was also in Burnham on Monday, and held a well-attended open business meeting of his own for local traders in the Reed Arms pub on The Esplanade.

He later walked along the High Street, meeting shoppers and visitors in Burnham town centre.

Other candidates standing in May’s election are Labour’s Andy Merryfield, UKIP’s Jake Baynes, the British National Party’s Richard Boyce and the Green Party’s Chris Briton.
