Angry politicians in Burnham-On-Sea have blamed ‘dirty tricks’ for the removal of scores of signs promoting their candidates in this week’s General Election.
Sixteen signs for Tessa Munt were removed along Burnham Road and Marine Drive in the early hours of Sunday morning (May 2nd).
District Councillor Joe Leach, pictured, was busy replacing them on Sunday morning and told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s very sad this has happened. People just want to show their support for a candidate and someone else is trying suppress it.”
“I am sure this is a case of dirty tricks. It couldn’t have been the wind or the signs would have been damaged and left nearby.”
Cllr Peter Burridge-Clayton said a smaller number of Conservative and Labour boards along the same stretch of road had been attacked: “We had several boards taken or damaged too. It is very disappointing that this has happened.”
