Burnham-On-Sea BMX rider Liam Phillips has become the first British man to win the UCI BMX Supercross series world title.
Liam, who became world champion last year, led the series going into the fifth and final round in California, but crashed in the quarter-finals.
However, his closest rival Anthony Dean went out in the semi-finals to guarantee Phillips the title as he finished with 710 points, 100 points clear of Dean.
Liam said on Twitter that he was “super happy to win the 2014 UCI BMX SX overall title.”
Liam, 25, has been an active member of Burnham BMX Club since the age of four and is a former pupil of Berrow School and Highbridge’s King Alfred School.
