Burnham-On-Sea BMX rider Liam Phillips selected for London Olympics

-

Burnham-On-Sea BMX rider Liam Phillips has this week been selected to ride for Great Britain at this summer’s Olympic Games despite a recent injury.

Liam recently competed in the 2012 BMX World Championships in Birmingham where he became the second fastest man in the world during time trials – only to break his collarbone the following day.

Liam has since undergone surgery and has had his collarbone pinned, plated and screwed by a top surgeon.

“His selection is fantastic news not only for him and his family but for his followers in Burnham-On-Sea,” a family member told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday evening.

Liam has been an active member of Burnham BMX Club since the age of four and is a former pupil of Berrow School and Highbridge’s King Alfred School.

Liam was “over the moon” by the news on Wednesday following a difficult few weeks due to his untimely injury. He said that he is “very proud” to be representing the country.

Burnham-On-Sea.com will be following Liam throughout the build-up to this summer’s Olympics.
