A former Highbridge school student is making a name for himself in the filmmaking industry after receiving two award nominations and winning an industry accolade.
Levi Dean, formerly of King Alfred School, has had a successful career since completing his A-Levels at Bridgwater College, working with renowned directors, including Oscar winner Phillipe Rousselot.
Levi went on to study at the Manchester School of Art where he gained a first class honours degree.
After gaining an internship and then securing a full-time job at Gothenburg Film Studios as a Production Assistant, Levi, with help from his colleagues began to write and direct films.
One of the films, ‘Deception’, was nominated as best film in the Pretzel Film Director Competition in London.
After this experience, Levi enrolled on a Masters Scriptwriting course at Bournemouth University where he achieved a distinction. While on the course, he wrote a script called ‘Ciaran’, working with a director also on the course, which won the Best Thriller at the Los Angeles Film Festival, held in Hollywood.
Levi saoid: “Whilst at Bridgwater College, I achieved the grades that I needed in order to enrol at my chosen university, The Manchester School of Art. More importantly, having struggled as a teenager and throughout my school years – as my self-esteem was low – this taught me I could achieve anything I wanted in life.”
“I am now living my dream through my job and in September will return to education to study for a PGCE so I can teach the filmmakers of the future.”
