Burnham-On-Sea’s Learning Centre closed its doors for the final time this week.
The facilities in Burnham’s Princess Street shut on Tuesday (December 19th) due to government funding cuts.
“Staff moved out of Burnham on Tuesday so we are officially closed as a centre there,” Vera Ixer from Somersert Skills and Learning confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We are currently delivering maths courses at The Princess Theatre and English courses at the Library and of course we are still working with businesses in the area to support them with Apprenticeship training.”
“Sadly, Burnham was a thriving centre for our community learning courses which we have had to shut down for now.”
“Susie Simon Norris, our CEO, is in constant talks with the ESFA to get Somerset’s community learning provision returned after it was cut in the autumn so we are ever hopeful that we can begin some community learning/leisure & Interest courses around Burnham again in the New Year – we’re still fighting!”
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported earlier this month that Burnham-On-Sea’s adult learning centre is closing.
SS&L suffered a major government funding cut in the Autumn, which meant a significant restructure for the organisation, including centre closures and redundancies.
