Burnham-On-Sea police issue appeal after spate of lead thefts

-

Burnham-On-Sea police have appealed for help in finding the thieves responsible for a series of lead thefts from buildings in the town over the past week.

Officers have revealed to Burnham-On-Sea.com that at least three properties along The Esplanade and High Street have been targeted by the crooks, who have stripped away the high-value metal from roofs and gutterings.

Sgt Ian Kennet told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A large quantity of lead has been stolen from the rear of two properties along Burnham High Street and the former Beverly Cottage nursing home on the seafront.”

“We would be grateful for any information regarding these thefts, particularly if any suspicious vehicles have been seen by residents.”

He added: “Various investigations are underway, including visits to scrap metal dealers to try and trace the metal. We would urge people to get in touch if they have any information.”

Residents can contact Burnham Police on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Last year, Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here how £10,000 of lead had been stolen from the roof of St Andrew’s Church on Burnham seafront.
