Newly-refurbished landmarks unveiled in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Ceremonies to mark the refurbishment of two landmarks in Burnham-On-Sea have been held over the Jubilee weekend.

More than £3,500 was spent by the Town Council on refurbishing the Victorian drinking fountain in Seaview Road and the bandstand in the Manor Gardens.

Ceremonies were held, as pictured, to mark the formal unveiling of both landmarks.

Work to spruce up the water fountain included steam cleaning the stonework, carrying out repairs to its base, replacing the lion’s head, painting a new town plaque, and introducing new solar panels on the fountain’s lighting.

The Town’s Mayor, Ken Smout, formally unveiled the new-look fountain together with the Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, Gill Slocombe, in the company of Burnham and Highbridge councillors and local residents.

Cllr Neville Jones told Burnham-On-Sea.com the improvements would provide “lasting benefit of the Jubilee for years to come.”

This was followed by a further short ceremony during Sunday’s Jubilee Jazz In The Park concert to unveil the new-look bandstand in the Manor Gardens. The metalwork and roof has been repainted and repairs have made to the lighting and electrics. In Highbridge, the town’s new clock was unveiled – as reported here.
