Strong winds provided ideal conditions for more than 25 land yachting enthusiasts as they gathered on Brean Beach, near Burnham-On-Sea, for their twice-yearly regatta at the weekend.
A series of five races were held over two days – on November 18th and 19th – and the conditions proved particularly good for three members of Brean’s Sand Land Yacht Club.
“Our club had a great weekend,” club secretary Margaret Katchro told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Three of our members – Rhys Davies, Malcom Menzies and Jeremy Proud – were delighted to win the top three places during the event.”
She added that the regatta had been fortunate enough to benefit from excellent weather.
“We had winds of up to 35mph on Saturday – and one of the participants recorded a top land speed of 65mph during one of the squalls. Sunday morning was quieter, but the afternoon was good again.”
The group’s first regatta of the year – which was held back in March – saw wintry weather conditions leaving the sand too wet for some yachts to take part.
