Over 20 of the UK’s leading sand yachting enthusiasts were in action on Brean beach over the weekend to compete in the British Land Yachting Championships.
The two-day event was organised by Brean Land Yacht Club and began on Saturday February 28th and continued on Sunday March 1st.
“The weather was calm for much of Saturday which meant no racing was possible but then the wind picked up at around 4pm and allowed us to complete the first day’s races,” the club’s Mike Young told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Sunday was too windy first thing for racing but we managed to fit in several mini races. We had a good turnout through the weekend.”
During ideal conditions, the yachts speed across the sand at up to 60mph, making quite a spectacle for spectators, as pictured here.
