Dozens of the UK’s top sand yachting enthusiasts were in action on Brean beach at the weekend during the British Land Yachting Championships.
The two-day National Land Yacht Regatta, hosted by Brean Land Yacht Club, started on Saturday and continued on Sunday.
The land yachts were powered along the beach at speeds of up to 55mph by brisk onshore winds.
Alan Scantlebury of Brean Land Yacht Club told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had 40 racers from right across Britain taking part, with three different classes of land yachts racing the length of the beach. It’s always quite a spectacle to watch.”
The winners were Class 3: 1st Tim Spears, 2nd Chris Wilson, 3rd Jake Cookson; Standarts: 1st Graham Harris, 2nd Derek George, 3rd Craig George; Class 5: 1st Rob Collins, 2nd Mark Sidey; Mini Spirit: 1st Chris Wright, 2nd Ian Dibdin, 3rd: Andy Parr.
