A lamp post came crashing down onto a pavement in Highbridge on Sunday morning (March 31st) after a car slammed into it.
Emergency services were called to the Huntspill Road at 8.55am when the vehicle struck the lamp post, demolishing it and leaving the vehicle badly damaged, as pictured here.
Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene, but incredibly there were no serious injuries.
A nearby eyewitness told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the male driver and two occupants were “shocked” but otherwise unharmed.
He described hearing a “loud bang” and then looking out to see what happened. “It could have been really nasty if someone had been walking by at the time. Thankfully, no-one was seriously hurt.”
A spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “SWASFT were called at just before 9am to Huntspill Road to a road traffic collision. One male patient was treated on scene by paramedics.”
An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman added: “We were called to Huntspill Road at 9am after a car was in collision with a lamppost. A passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries in the incident and was treated by paramedics at the scene.”
