Fire crews successfully rescued a stranded lamb trapped in a ditch in Highbridge on Tuesday evening (August 23rd).
Crews from Burnham and Bridgwater were called to the Isleport Industrial Estate at 7.41pm after a farmer discovered the animal had become stuck in a deep water-filled rhyne.
“Hampered by bracken and undergrowth, crews used hand saws and secateurs to clear the area before two firefighters in dry suits entered the rhyne to successfully rescue the animal and return it safely to the farmer,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Two appliances from Burnham attended, along with a specialist rescue team from Bridgwater, who were assisted by a an officer who specialises in animal rescues.
