Burnham-On-Sea gun-dog who’s scared of guns in line for top award

-

A Burnham-On-Sea labrador that was bred to be a gun dog but became too afraid of the noise has overcome her fears and is in line to win an award.

Devon, a two-year-old labrador that lives with her owners in Burnham, used to be a hunting dog until she was forced to quit.

At just 10-months-old, she collapsed and suffered a seizure from gun noise-induced stress.

The dog has since been rehomed in Burnham and appears to have made a complete transformation.

The labrador is competing for the title of Best Rescue/Rehomed Dog at Martin Clunes’ Buckham Fair in Dorset this summer.

Her Burnham-On-Sea owner, Annette Gibson, says that when Devon first came to her, she was suffering from a host of medical conditions for which she was having to take a number of medications, but since recovered.

Devon was brought to the Labrador Rescue Trust and Annette was asked to temporarily take her in. She says that she was fostering her at first but got so attached that adopted her permanently.

Devon was up against 17 other rescue dogs in the qualifier rounds for the competition and sailed through to the final, which is to be held in the summer.

She’ll be judged in the category by Martin Clunes himself at Buckham Fair in August.
