4×4 crashes into wall of Burnham-On-Sea town centre restaurant

-

A 4×4 was left damaged after it crashed into a wall outside a restaurant in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (May 12th).

The driver of the Ford Ranger collided with the side of La Vela restaurant in Abingdon Street shortly after 5.30pm, as pictured here.

Eyewitnesses told Burnham-On-Sea.com that no-one was hurt in the single-vehicle collision, as Police launched an investigation into what happened.

A customer at the nearby Somerset and Dorset pub, who asked not to be named, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were outside the front of the pub having a drink when the vehicle went past us in the High Street and into Abingdon Street.”

“Moments later we heard a big bang, and we rushed round to see what had happened and saw a lady driver getting out of the vehicle.”

“The vehicle was damaged but she was fine – she was quite calm and not hurt. She’d apparently swerved to avoid a car coming round the corner from Pier Street.”

A spokeswoman at La Vela told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the restaurant is open as normal, although several customers had the seen the collision. She added there had been some “minor damage” to the building which is being assessed.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Burnham-On-Sea Police on 101.
