Burnham-On-Sea La Retraite School to hold reunion this month

-

Staff and pupils from Burnham-On-Sea’s former La Retraite school are being sought for a reunion taking place later this month.

The event will take place on Saturday 14th April at 12 mid-day at Burnham’s Catholic Church of Our Lady & the English Martyrs.

A group of French Sisters of La Retraite founded the boarding school in Burnham-On-Sea’s Oxford Street in 1887.

The boarding school and convent closed in 1984 and it was converted to a nursing home.

“Anybody with any links to our old school is most welcome,” organiser Helen Harker told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Please also bring any photos or other memorabilia.”

“Lunch will be at around 1pm, and at 2pm we will hopefully hear from Sister Elizabeth Ann Llewelyn and enjoy a talk from Pat Nicholls.”

“Please bring a plate of finger food – savoury, sweet or fruit – for a shared lunch and a bottle too – alcoholic is fine!”

“Tea and coffee will be provided and there will also be a small cost of £5 or less, depending on numbers, to cover the cost of the hall hire.”

“We will then continue our reunion later in the afternoon and early evening informally at The Dunstan House Inn in Burnham.”
