Inspirational 11-year-old Joe Laoutaris from Burnham-On-Sea is failing to let cancer get in the way of his love of Kung Fu.
The King Alfred School student, who was last year diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma Tumour, a type of bone cancer, is continuing to take part in his favourite hobby.
He is a popular member of Berrow’s Fei Lung Kwan-Kung Fu Club and is persuing his ambition of becoming a Kung Fu Master.
“Having been given the ‘all clear’ a couple of months ago it was a shock or us all to discover only a couple of weeks later that it was back again,” the group’s leader Patrick Barber told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“In all this time Joe has never been seen to be down, sad, or negative. He has consistently remained happy, positive and humorous.”
“Even when having chemotherapy and radiotherapy Joe – who is referred to as ‘The Little Warrior’ by his Kung Fu Master – has continued to practice his Kung Fu and has said his ambition is to be a ‘Kung Fu Master’.”
Last July Joe participated in the Fei Lung Kwan’s National Grading and gained a Merit Pass for his 8th Grade Orange Sashe. “He has proved to be a true warrior in all ways,” added Patrick.
Joe was recently among several young people acrosss the county recognised at the 2014 Pride of Somerset Youth Awards.
