Kung fu enthusiasts flock to Berrow for national grading competition

-

More than 65 people from across the country attended Berrow-based Kung Fu group Fei Lung Kwan’s annual National Junior Grading competition on Saturday (21st July).

Held at Berrow School, 35 students took part in the grading, eight of whom were from the Berrow group.

Seven students received ‘Merit Passes’, six of whom were from the Berrow group – Chloe Reynolds, Sophie Butt, Jacob Nelson, Joe Laoutaris, Faith Hooper and Bethany Anstee.

The group’s Harrison Barber also received a Certificate of Commendation from the instructors “for demonstrating exceptional technical ability that is rarely seen or expected at such a young age.”

It followed his performance during the technical section of his Junior Black Belt on 28th June. Harrison is 13 years-old and is Fei Lung Kwan’s youngest-ever student to take the Junior Black Belt.

The group’s leader Patrick Barber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Grading went very well yesterday. The grading was attended by around 65 people. Following the grading all present proceeded to Burnham beach for a picnic and celebration.”
