King Alfred School ‘developing plans to re-open for pupils in years 10 and 12’

-

Highbridge’s King Alfred School Academy has this week said it is developing plans to re-open to pupils in years 10 and 12 with extra safety measures in place due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Head teacher Nathan Jenkins told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday (May 12th): “Following the recent announcements and the guidance that has been issued by the government, we have been fully analysing the details to develop plans to safely open school for years 10 and 12.”

“We will update parents, carers and students as soon as we have a clear picture of what we need to do.”

“Until then, nothing has changed and students should continue with home learning or coming to school if their parents are key workers.”

He adds: “Safeguarding student and staff, and indeed the whole community, is our absolute top priority.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said this week that secondary schools are likely to stay closed until September, but he added there is an “ambition” that secondary pupils facing exams next year – Years 10 and 12 – would get some time in school before the summer holidays.

Meanwhile, primary schools could re-open to some year groups from 1st June “at the earliest”, said the PM, adding that a phased return to primary school would begin with pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, if infection rates and the government’s other tests at the time allow it.

For most pupils, schools have been closed since 20th March.
