More than £1,000 has been raised to support NHS front-line staff by young showjumping riders from the Burnham-On-Sea area and beyond taking part in an online video.
Their humorous video, shown below, starts with a shot of a woman sat on a loo saying she needs a toilet roll before a cleverly-edited collection of film clips shows the local horse riders throwing a toilet roll to each other in order for a dog to deliver the roll to the lady in the final scenes.
The video ends with a horse rider coming into view with the message on the horse stating: “Thank you NHS and key workers.”
The video is raising money for ‘NHS Charities Together‘, a national collective voice for over 140 NHS charities in the UK.
Olivia March from Alstone Court Riding in Highbridge told Burnham-On-Sea.com how it all came about: “Last week, I had a text message from one of my best friends, Hannah Thorne, and I wanted to try and do the ‘toilet roll challenge’.”
“We wanted to bring everyone together and have a good laugh now that our shows are all cancelled for the foreseeable future.”

“So, I set up a group chat on Facebook Messenger and added as many people as we thought would participate. By Sunday evening we had received nearly 30 videos from our showjumping friends all over the country. We never thought in a million years we would of had so many sent to us!”
“Hannah started making the video Sunday evening with messages back and forth and it was finished and live on Facebook by 2pm Monday. Within nine hours we had raised £600 and it’s still going up now. It’s been shared over hundreds times and has been viewed over 20,000 times!”
“What we planned to be a bit of fun for us all during this lockdown has turned into something amazing and is helping support our NHS and key workers.”
