A former town centre leisure shop in Burnham-On-Sea is set to become home to a charity.
The High Street walking and camping supplies shop — called ‘A Walking Company’ — shut in March, as we reported here.
Now, Educate the Kids, a charity which provides schooling for children in Kenya, has announced it is to open a charity shop at the premises on Tuesday 2nd May for a few weeks. The shop will open daily.
Southern England charity organiser Sue Stevens, who lives in Burnham, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Educate the Kids has a strong local support base, generated largely by successful tours to the area of The Singing Children of Africa.”
“The singing group from Jolaurabi School have visited the area on several occasions and wowed audiences with their vibrant performances and sunny personalities.”
“They also visit schools to exchange cultural ideas and share their experiences of how hard life is growing up in rural Africa. Local families have welcomed the performers into their homes during these tours and many have then gone on to sponsor a Kenyan child’s education.”
Sue added: “We are very grateful to the owners of the premises for allowing us to generate much-needed funds over the next couple of weeks. We hope that all of our many followers will find time to visit the shop to grab themselves a bargain, whilst knowing that their money will go directly to help with education at our schools.”
“There will be something to appeal to everyone, young and old, so please come along and see us. Many items are brand new, with labels still attached, and others are all in clean sellable condition at knock down prices.”
“Unfortunately we are unable to take further donations of goods, we need people to come along and purchase an item or two. Items range from designer clothes, sports equipment, toys and gifts, to aids for the elderly.”
