Generous fundraisers in Burnham-On-Sea are hoping to raise £2,000 towards a group of needy Kenyan schoolchildren.
A temporary charity shop has been set up in the former CJ Holes premises in Victoria Street for eight days until Tuesday April 10th.
And organiser Sue Stevens, who oversaw the visit of a group of Kenyan children to Burnham last autumn, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday (April 6th) that she has been “overwhelmed with the positive response” from local people so far.
“This is the third year running we’ve held a temporary fundraising shop at this time of the year and we always get superb support. We’re hoping to raise £2,000 during the eight days from the sale of donated clothes, books and other items. We’ve already raised £1,200, so we’re well on our way to meeting our target.”
All funds raised at the shop will go towards the Samson Chivatsi African Children’s Appeal, which was established in 1998 to give the poorest children in Kenya access to a good education.
