A Burnham-On-Sea teenager was cheered on by a crowd of school friends when she carried the Olympic torch through Dunster on Monday.
Katrina Doyle, 13, was nominated as a torch bearer after bravely overcoming leukaemia as a child and has gone on to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
On Monday, she was cheered on by a large group of friends from Highbridge’s King Alfred School alongside her family as she took the torch through Dunster. She said the day had been “so exciting and such a huge honour.”
Katrina was diagnosed with Leukaemia aged 7 and volunteered for a 26-month medical trial for treatment, posing possible risk to her, but if successful paving the way for other child sufferers to have a shortened treatment in the future. Katrina suffered hair loss from the chemotherapy and when her hair grew back she chose to dye it bright pink to raise over £2,500 for the Clic Sargent Children’s cancer charity. She never complained about her illness, despite her discomfort.
