High-achieving Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge students at King Alfred School Sixth Form have been inspired during a masterclass put on by Cambridge University.
The Sixth Form – which is performing as one of the best in the South West – participated in masterclasses, led by academics from the University of Cambridge.
Students also carried out independent research in advance on their specialist subjects and presented their findings to fellow Somerset students under the watchful eye of experts from Cambridge.
The subjects varied from law and history, to zoology and maths, and year 12 student Rhiana Sinclair won first prize for best presentation.
The event also included top tips on applying to Cambridge, Oxford and other leading UK universities.
The students are now looking forward to a two day residential trip to Cambridge in July.
OFSTED declared last year that King Alfred School is a very good Sixth Form and manages to get students into top British universities, with big ambitions.
The school-based aspirational Sixth Form with an 11 to 18 environment is now being assisted by The Priory Learning Trust.
Figures from the Department of Education that were recently published showed the sixth form are squeezing excellent potential out of students on both academic and vocational categories.
Head of Sixth Form Jonathan Gaskell told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This was a tremendously successful event, full of aspiration, and really helpful for our students, who are all aiming for top universities.”
