Pupils at Highbridge’s King Alfred School have enjoyed end-of-year proms at Batch Country House in Lympsham and Weston Pier.
Year 11 pupils from King Alfred School celebrated the end of their GCSE exams and secondary schooling in style with a formal prom at the Batch. Over 25 staff and 200 pupils pulled out all the stops in terms of style and class and looked amazing in their finest.
The evening started with the arrival in all manner of vintage and modern vehicles. Following photographs around the grounds, the Year 11 pupils then enjoyed a three-course meal inside a glittering ballroom decked in silver and blue.
As well as further photographs, a raffle and a disco, the students were also treated to local band ‘Drop The Mic’ (which includes three students from the year group) who entertained the room with songs as varied as ‘Johnny B. Goode’ by Chuck Berry to Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’! The dancing then continued until midnight.
“It has been lovely to see everyone this evening having such a great time” said Mr Lockett, Head of Year. “These students have come a very long way in the last five years and they really deserve credit for their achievements. Tonight was about having fun and marking a very special milestone in their lives.”
Meanwhile, the King Alfred sixth form students celebrated their annual prom at The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare. Over 100 students and staff members attended the stylish event to say their final goodbyes to the Year 13 students, who are poised to take up their university places and apprenticeship positions this September.
The memorable evening was organised by the hard-working sixth form student committee with the whole-hearted support of Miss Watkins. All attendees were blown away with the venue, the interpretation of the Space Theme and the Regency Suite with its stunning backdrop of the Weston-Super-Mare seafront.
The evening was full of fantastic food and entertainment with an opening speech from Year 13 student Sam Cain, followed by the latest installment of a Star Wars Episode with KAS subtitles and Miss Hewlitt’s unbelievable cover of Amy Winehouse’s Valerie.
Towards the end of the night, Miss Watkins unveiled an emotional slideshow that compiled all their achievements from earlier years and the Sixth Form. Mr Jonathan Gaskell, Head of Sixth Form, congratulated students on their hard work ethic during the year and said they would be sorely missed.
Overall, the night was considered ‘the perfect way to say goodbye’. The staff at The Grand Pier were full of praise for the students, mentioning how polite and sophisticated they were throughout the night.
