Burnham-On-Sea Police have teamed up with a group of pupils from Highbridge’s King Alfred School to launch a new anti-theft bike scheme this week.
Several students are overseeing the initiative, which involves logging the details of every cycle used by the school’s youngsters.
Bike frame numbers are being gathered plus photos of every cycle so that these can be used by police if they are stolen in the future.
PC Ian Bartlett told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The aim is to make everyone aware that if bikes are stolen in the future a high quality digital photo and full details of the bike can be published in local media to recover stolen cycles.”
The initiative will get fully underway after the half-term break. The students are taking on the project as part of the Duke of Edingburgh award sceme.
