Young Highbridge photographers shortlisted in national competition

-

Three young photographers from Highbridge’s King Alfred School have had their pictures shortlisted in a national competition.

Year 8 pupils Ruby Moxey, Tom Harkness and Lewis Butler entered their photographs taken during the school’s Kilve geography visit this summer into the Colliers Green Focus Awards.

They were delighted to find out that they had been included on a shortlist of 79 photographs – quite a feat, given that over 100 schools across the UK have taken part, entering 2,000 photographs.

The Highbridge pupils’ photos were displayed at a ceremony at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London on Tuesday 22nd November, where it was revealed that Ruby’s photograph had been awarded ‘highly commended’.

Catherine Owen, Head of Geography, praised the three pupils and told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The geography department is looking forward to entering more photographs for this competition in 2012 and hope that the success can be repeated.”

The shortlisted photographs can be seen on the Colliers Green Focus website. Colliers Green supports the teaching of the ‘sense of place’ theme of the geography curriculum, using photography as a creative medium.
