Students from Highbridge’s King Alfred School were this week given a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster where they also met the town’s MP, Tessa Munt.
The pupils, pictured, also got to meet a number of well-known politicians during the visit, which coincided with the weekly Prime Minister’s Questions session.
“Three students chatted to the charismatic Labour MP Dennis Skinner at the end of the PM’s Questions. He was jubilant at the performance of debutante Ed Miliband at the dispatch box,” Head of Sixth Form Jonathan Gaskell told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“At the end of the tour, the students also chatted with Tessa Munt, who has been a terrific support since she became our MP, taking students on work experience in Westminster, and fielding awkward questions about university funding and apprenticeships with grace and insight.”
He added: “The students left Westminster a little more knowledgeable about British traditions and politics. An increasing number are applying to study politics at university.”
