Dozens of students from Highbridge’s King Alfred School have returned from a special trip to Germany.
Pupil Georgina Fowell from the school’s class 10E told Burnham-On-Sea.com about the highlights of the trip.
“31 pupils got up bright and early to go to Koblenz in Germany. At 5:15am we started our 20 hour journey, yes 20 hours is long but definitely worth it! We arrived at our nice hotel at 8pm and were greeted by friendly staff and the smell of spaghetti bolognaise.”
“On the first day we went to Realschule plus an der Untermosel, our partner school, to spend the day with our German partners who recently visited us in England. We then headed to Koblenz for a city tour. We particularly liked where the Mosel and Rhine rivers met, called the Deutsches Eck (German corner).”
“On day two we travelled to Cologne, the 3rd biggest city in Germany, however on the way we stopped off in Bonn at the mother of all Haribo shops to spend some Euros. Most of us came out with huge 4kg boxes of sweets, it was like heaven. The coach could only just fit all of the sweets in the hold!”
“In Cologne we visited the Dom (cathedral), the architecture was mind-blowing! We then walked over the Hohenzollern Bridge, where there are thousands of engraved padlocks placed by people to commemorate a special time in their lives. We left our own little padlock engraved with ‘KAS’ and we hope that in 2013 KAS pupils will be able to find it.”
“The last day was spent in Phantasialand, a theme park where there were huge rides like the Black Mamba rollercoasters with its loops and twists but also smaller things for people that weren’t keen on that! It was a great day to end a great trip!”
