Highbridge’s King Alfred School achieves geography excellence status

-

Geographers at Highbridge’s King Alfred School are celebrating being awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark with Centre of Excellence status from the Geographical Association for a third time.

The quality mark process involves the department submitting a folder of evidence, which is checked by a moderator.

The moderator said: “Pupils are very fortunate to have access to a rich and varied curriculum allied with such a committed teaching team… we hope that the continuing award of SGQM and centre of excellence will allow the department to continue its notable achievements on the local, regional, national and international stage.”

Catherine Owen, Head of Geography, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted to see our work recognised as amongst the best in the country. A major strength of our department is its connections to the wider world, whether through local projects with the Neighbourhood Planning Group or internationally with our link school in Kampala; these links have helped us to achieve this award.”
