Burnham-On-Sea’s former MP Tessa Munt has pledged her support for a People’s Vote on Brexit during a question time event in the town.
Mp James Heappey joined Burnham’s former Lib Dem MP Tessa Munt and Labour Parliamentary candidate Andy Merryfield for a lively debate at Highbridge’s King Alfred School.
They answered questions from the sixth form students on topics ranging from climate change and lowering the age of voting to more affordable access to university education.
But Brexit was undertstandably the hot topic.
Former MP Tessa Munt said: “I think the only way out of the hideous mess the Government has created is to put Theresa May’s deal to a People’s Vote. Personally I don’t use the phrase ‘second’ referendum as what I support is the first opportunity for the public to judge her deal.”
Mr Heappey said he thinks MPs “will vote on the PM’s deal one more time at least. We’ll also probably be asked to vote for ‘no deal’ one more time at least and then there will be other indicative votes. I will continue to seek an exit that is along the lines of the deal because I think anything softer would not be honouring the referendum result.”
